Building Awareness
At Google, we’re advocating for policies and actions to help find new clean energy solutions because we believe the world needs better energy options in the future.
We need to pursue a wide range of strategies to achieve a more sustainable future and take advantage of the economic opportunities presented by innovation in the clean energy sector. We’re pursuing several initiatives to help build a more sustainable world.
Smarter Energy Use
We believe in giving people in the U.S. and all over the world access to their energy information, and in creating an open platform for innovative solutions that help people measure their energy use and take action to reduce wasted energy.
Just as we pursue energy efficiency company-wide, we’re also helping increase efficiency in the IT sector and across the entire economy. As a leader in efficient infrastructure, we believe in sharing our best practices through events like our Efficient Data Center Summit. We’re helping develop standards for facility and IT equipment efficiency as members of The Green Grid, a global consortium of IT companies. Google is also a founding member of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative, a non-profit group committed to making the design and use of all PCs and servers more energy efficient.
Innovation in Clean Energy
We believe the world needs to accelerate research and development in innovative clean energy technologies. We’re helping to build a clean energy future in a variety of ways. Learn more about Google.org’s RE<C initiative, work in Geothermal energy, RechargeIT initiative on plug-in vehicles, and Google’s investments in clean energy. In 2008, we developed Clean Energy 2030, a plan to transform the U.S. economy from one running on fossil fuels towards renewable sources of energy.
With strong leadership, the right policies and innovative technologies, we believe the world will move quickly towards a clean energy future.
