Mechanical Engineer - Mountain View

The Platforms team designs and builds the software, hardware, computing platform and networking technologies that power all of Google's services.

The role: Mechanical Engineer

You must be a top notch mechanical engineer who will provide product design insight independently design future compute and networking products. The opportunities which come with creating our own world-class architecture are endless. You need to have both the technical knowledge and creativity to productize our next generation equipment with innovative solutions. The successful candidate must be at the level of a senior technologist with strong analysis and design skills.

Responsibilities:

• Identify and scope projects around innovation opportunities as well as technology risks.
• Develop and execute designs for complex server systems backed by thorough engineering analysis.
• Deliver robust solutions for tasks such as blind mating of high density interconnects, inject/eject mechanisms and large server racks.
• Take responsibility for the productizing of large-scaled networked computer systems - including requirements gathering, concepts generation & detailed design, analysis & verification testing, cross functional reviews and manufacturing release.
• Be a technical resource in multiple areas of product design such as thermal, structural, manufacturability, serviceability and reliability.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (In lieu of degree, 4 years relevant work experience).
• 4 years work experience in design and analysis of electronics packaging.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MS in Mechanical Engineering.
• 6 years relevant work experience including designing complex electro-mechanical assemblies with an expert understanding of mechanical tolerances and ability to perform detailed tolerance loop analysis.
• Sheet metal expertise along with excellent facility with 3D CAD systems (Pro/Engineer experience).
• Well versed in the core mechanical engineering analytical skills, including excellent facility with structural and thermal analysis techniques for small to large electronics packaging systems (Flotherm and Mechanica experience).
• Strong background in mechanical design of PCBAs and electrical interconnect systems.
• Great analytical and organizational skills, coupled with a well-focused attention to details; ability and commitment to produce a timely and highly accurate work product.
