At Google we hire PhDs across our engineering organization. Google employs thousands of PhDs throughout the company working on everything from data center network architectures to programming languages to mobile applications. PhDs at Google work on interesting real world problems and are encouraged to work toward creating or improving a product.
Research at Google
At Google, we don’t see the theoretical and the practical as being mutually exclusive. Our research is aimed at furthering our present and future impact on our users. Our research groups do not sit isolated in separate buildings, but are integrated into our engineering organization, where many researchers have the title "Software Engineer."
With this decentralized approach, research ideas can have an immediate influence on engineering, and, in turn, real-world challenges can shape the research agenda. Researchers and Software Engineers at Google are also enthusiastic participants in the global scientific community. We contribute to open source activities, collaborate with our academic colleagues, serve as program chairs and journal editors, and actively publish our work in academic literature.
