Description

Nov. 11, 1969 e. c. PERUSKI DEVICE FOR CLEANING AND SETTING A HAIRPIEGE Filed March 26, 1968 656110 C. PRUSX/ INVENTOR.
United States Patent 3,477,448 DEVICE FOR CLEANING AND SETTING A HAIRPIECE Gerald C. Peruski, 6472 Kingsbury, Dearborn Heights, Mich. 48127 Filed Mar. 26, 1968, Ser. No. 716,120 Int. Cl. A45d 19/00 US. Cl. 132-9 6 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to cosmetology and has particular reference to a device for holding a hairpiece while it is being cleaned and set.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the character indicated which is particularly useful in cleaning and setting small hairpieces or wiglets.
Another object of the invention is to generally improve devices for cleaning and setting a hairpiece, and to provide a device of that character which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture and eflicient in operation.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character indicated which is compact, light in weight, and one which may readily be assembled and disassembled for cleaning.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device .of the character indicated which may readily be fastened to a table or the like when a hairpiece is being set.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the character indicated which is provided with a ring, having a plurality of arcuate fingers pivoted thereto for holding the hairpiece in position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character indicated which is constructed with a perforated base, having a shoulder thereon for receiving a ring provided with pivotable fingers and a cover member with threaded means cooperating between the base and the cover for pivoting the fingers into locking position.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages of the invention will become more apparent as the description proceeds, reference being made from time to time to the accompanying drawing, forming part of the within disclosure, in which drawing:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view with parts in section, illustrating the device embodying the invention, mounted on the edge of a table and in the position for setting the hairpiece.
FIG. 2 is an enlarged elevational view, with parts in section, showing the device in position for washing the hairpiece.
FIG. 3 is a section take through the cover of the dev1ce.
FIG. 4 is a section taken through the base of the device.
FIG. 5 is an enlarged plan view of the ring and finger assembly.
FIG. 6 is a plan view of the ring with the fingers removed.
FIG. 7 is a view taken substantially on the line 77 of FIG. 5.
FIG. 8 is a view taken substantially on the line 8-8 of FIG. 4.
ice
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, it will be understood that in the embodiment herein disclosed the reference character 11 indicates, in general, the device embodying the invention shown being supported on the edge of a table 12 (FIG. 1), by means of a clamp 13 and mounting brackets 14 and 15.
In FIG. 1, I show the position of the device with the hairpiece 29 thereon arranged for brushing, setting, drying and combing out.
The device shown in FIG. 1 consists of a base member 16 (FIGS. 2, 4 and 8) which is preferably made of a plastic material and having a reduced externally threaded neck portion 17 and a plurality of internal passageways 18 which communicate with an enlarged passageway 19, and discharge outlets 20.
The passageway 19 has inserted therein a copper tube 21A, upon which is received a flexible tube 21 through which water and shampoo materials may be passed onto and through the hairpiece 29 when in the position shown in FIG. 2.
The base 16 is provided with a peripheral recess 22 arranged to receive a ring 23 (FIGS. 2, 5 and 6), which ring has pivoted thereon a plurality of curved fingers 24 (FIGS. 2, 5 and 7), which are spaced from one another by tubular spacers 23A. A bell like cover member 25, having a handle portion 26 and a passageway 27, and an internally threaded counterbore 28 is arranged to fit over the base member 16 as shown in FIG. 2.
The cover member 25 is loosely fitted and slidably mounted on the water tube 21, and is arranged to exert lateral pressure on the curved fingers 24 as the threads 28 of the cover are tightened on the threads 17 of the base.
In using the device, the base 16 is first inverted, as shown in FIG. 1. The hairpiece 29, having strands of hair 30, is first stretched across the inverted base, and the ring 23 is then brought into contacting relation with the recess 22. The cover 25 is next brought into the position, as shown in FIG. 2, and is rotated on the threads 17, 28, moving the cover into closely contacting relation with the fingers 24, causing them to be moved axially with respect to the base 16. The free ends of the fingers 24 will ride over the exposed area of the hairpiece to tightly secure it to the base 16.
The device is then positioned as shown in FIG. 2, and water and shampooing materials are allowed to pass through the tube 21 and the hairpiece 29 to cleanse it. After cleansing and rinsing the hairpiece, the device is again positioned as shown in FIG. 1, in which position the hairpiece may then be brushed, set, dried and combed. After the setting operation the hairpiece 29 is removed from the base 16 by backing off the cover member 25, so that the hairpiece 29 is free of the fingers 24.
It is believed that the operation of the device is obvious from the foregoing description.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device for cleaning and setting a hairpiece of the character described the combination of a base member having a convex surface receiving a hairpiece, a hairpiece on said base, a ring, having a plurality of curved fingers pivoted thereto, said ring being positioned within a recess in said base, a cover member received on said base and overriding said ring and said fingers, said cover member cooperating with said recess to secure said ring on said base, and water passageways in said cover and said base arranged to pass water through said hairpiece.
2. The structure of claim 1, in which said base and said cover have cooperating threaded elements for exerting radial pressure on said fingers with respect to said base when said cover is rotated relative to said base.
3. The structure of claim 1, in which said base has a flexible Water line connected thereto and said cover member is loosely and slidably mounted on said Water line.
4. The structure of claim 1, in which said cover and said base have cooperating elements arranged to exert thrust on said fingers to move them into locking position over said hairpiece, when said cover and base are moved relative to one another, in one direction and to unlock said fingers when moved in the opposite direction.
5. The structure of claim 1, including a handle on said cover member.
6. The structure of claim 1, in which said cover memher has a handle portion and means for attaching said handle to a supporting structure such as a table.
