MORONI EVANS, OF RUSSIAVILLE,:INDIANA. Letters Patent No. 60,707, dated January 1, 1867- IMPROVEMENT IN BOOTS AND SHOES.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, M. EVnNS, of Russiaville, Howard county, State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boots and Shoes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The present invention relates to the manner of lacing the boot or shoe, and it consists in so forming the boot or shoe that it can be laced or buttoned up in front in lieu of the rear or behind, as in the Letters Patent granted to Thomas Powell, dated September 19, A. D. 1865, whereby it can be accomplished with ease and convenienee to the person wearing the boot or'shoe, and with one thirdless lacing, at least, aswill beobvious from the following detail description of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying plate of drawings, in Which--- Figure 1 is a side view of a boot having it applied thereto.
. Figure 2 is a plan or top view.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A in the drawings represents the boot, which is made in such a manner as to present no openings for the entrance of moisture tothe foot upon which it is worn, flaps B B being sewed or otherwise properly secured to the sides of the upper of the boot, one upon each side, and extending toward'the front of the boot. These flaps, B, are secured together by means of straps, C G, projecting from a guard, C, which at one end are secured to one of the flaps, either by sewing or by being buttoned over buttons 1), or in any proper manner, or may form a part of such flap, and at their other ends button over buttons E, secured to the other 'fiap, B; these straps thus extending from one flap to the other and across and over the front of the boot upper, as is plainly shown in the drawing, fig. 2 especially.
From the above, by lacing the boot in the manner explained, that is, on the front of theboot, it is plainly obvious that many important advantages are secured, among which may be mentioned that it is an exceedingly convenient mode, and the boot can be laced with the utmost freedom, ease, and despatch.
The following is what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent In gaiter boots provided with flaps B B, formed with an extension of the quarter and afold connecting them, so as to make the boot water-tight to its top, I claim the double row of buttons D E and ornamental guard C,
the latter serving to conceal the ends of the flaps, and having straps C C C G to take-over the buttons D E, as and for the purposes specified.
