IS: Infinite Stratos 2 – 04

IS2 (3)

The girls are ready for some fun!

Welcome back to another hilarious time with the usual suspects for more Infinite Stratos! Today’s episode is a bit more action packed than normal, but that is perfectly fine because that is one thing this series really needs more of or does it? Anyway I hope you enjoy the video.

I’m trying to decide which is a bigger trainwreck sequel series: this or Samurai Brides. And it shouldn’t be a hard decision, because Samurai Bride, especially the first half, was atrocious. But I just can’t figure out what this series is trying to do. It isn’t really playing up the harem stuff, because if it was there was a TON of character development it skipped already. And so far the only fight has been Ichika not doing exactly horrible, about typical for him, and Tatenashi saving his bacon. After that, the rest of the girls just did horrible, including standing there in their IS while Arachne came over and blew up on them. Duuuuumb.

I just don’t get where the series is going.

I don’t get it either. I will admit that this one was a shade better than previous episode. If they just let this be it’s own mecha musume, it would do fine. I mean, can you imagine a love interest in Strike Witches?

      • Highway says:

Well, there were plenty of love interests in Strike Witches, including more than one ‘they-should-be-married-already’ couples (Eila and Sanya, Francesca and Charlotte for sure). But you’re right, the first season worked just fine with “Harem antics and fighting”. I don’t know what they think they’re accomplishing with this mishmash of plot points.

        • skylion says:

I can’t speak of the first season. I just know that the elements presented in the premier of this season showed that without the harem aspect it just looks stronger.

But by love interests in Strike Witches, I meant male characters. Eila and Sanya did just splendidly on their own.

Well, things are beginning to get real and with some serious murderous intent to boot. This one episode had more action than the entire first season. Years later and Ichika is still being targeted. I wonder what makes his IS so special. It looks pretty much like a standard model.

Tatenashi is really overshadowing the other girls. She’s making them lose signifcance and gradually turning them into nothing more than pretty faces.

    • Highway says:

Well, this isn’t actually ‘years later’. This is at most a month after the first series, in show time. Everyone of our main characters (except Tatenashi) is still a first year, I think they’re now 2nd trimester, since it’s after summer break.

      • BlackBriar says:

I meant since the first time Ichika was kidnapped. A while after that was when he joined the academy.

    • belatkuro says:

Byakushiki is an IS of a male pilot after all. That makes it special on its own, despite being so plain and only having a sword as its initial equipment(it got the Setsura beam/claw equipment after the Second Shift powerup he got last season).
Surely anyone and everyone is interested in what makes Byakushiki tick as it can be piloted by a male.

Also, Chifuyu already mentioned last season that the core of Byakushiki is the same core as the White Knight, the first ever IS developed. That makes it even more special, though not everyone knows this.

      • Highway says:

I thought it was made pretty clear that Ichika is the special link, not Byakushiki. I mean, we can talk about the rigged test one that he got to move initially, but I’m pretty sure they put Ichika in a normal training IS after that. Byakushiki is definitely special, but it’s a separate special from Ichika special.

        • BlackBriar says:

It’s most likely a 50/50 deal. Each one brings out the potential in the other.

        • Highway says:

I actually went back and looked at the early stages of the first season, and no, Ichika never did use a normal IS. So as far as I am in the story (which really isn’t much farther than anyone else just watching the anime), it’s not certain whether there actually something really special about Ichika, or Tabane has figured out a way for (some) males to make IS work. I’ll look at that last episode of S1 sometime later, there was a conversation between Tabane and Chifuyu that I recall from the LN that talked about Ichika’s initial encounter with that “demonstration” suit.
