Jaywalk Straight Rye Whiskey

Item # 50603 750mL

We don't say this lightly, and only with the slightest bias, but this may well be the very best everyday American Rye Whiskey at the moment, bar none. A decade into his vision for resurrecting not only the great tradition of American Rye Whiskey but New York Rye even more so, this bottling is the culmination of a decade's worth of blood sweat and tears. As the label says, this whiskey was grown, distilled and aged in New York. Made from 75% New York Rye, with a significant percentage of that being the highly flavorsome Horton Rye this distiller coaxed back to life on farms around NY, 13% New York Corn and 12% malted barley, the blend for this flagship bottling was drawn from stocks aged 6,7 & 8yrs old. Bottled at 92 proof. We'll say it again - this may be about as good as an everyday rye could hope to be.

Staff Pick Notes

It's great to know of home grown success stories like the NY Distlling Company. Founded in 2011, they've recently moved their distillery to a facility 3 times as large. This coincides with the long awaited bottling of Jaywalk, their new special rye. If you thought their Ragtime Rye (now retired) was good, you haven't seen nothin’ yet. An heirloom variety called Horton's Rye is the star in this blend. NY Distilling has been farming Horton's Rye in the Finger Lakes for years. The spirit has matured in barrel for 6-8 years and is finally ready for you. The whiskey is robust and smooth. If you like your whiskey drinks rich and opulent, you'll be glad to have found this bottle. Just make sure you cross on street corners on your way home.

New York

New York winemakers have embraced international varieties and hit the ground running. The Hudson River Valley is home to the oldest vineyards in New York State. Bordeaux varietals are at home in Long Island’s maritime climate. The Finger Lakes harbors a burgeoning winemaking community where many natural-inclined producers focus on dry still wines. No longer is our fair state synonymous with Concord grapes and Manischewitz; look for brilliant iterations of Pinot Noir, Riesling, Cabernet Franc,...
