It’s not every actress that can get inside your brain and have you questioning the character she plays on-screen with such genuine confusion: IS SHE A SPY OR NOT? Laurie Holden’s portrayal of Renee on The Americans has left us scratching our heads for a while now, with no clear signs that she may or may not be a Russian spy who has infiltrated the life of FBI agent Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich). But we’re going to keep watching and we’re going to keep loving how frustrated she makes us feel as we try to figure it out. Which is precisely why she’s this week’s Woman Crush Wednesday.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Laurie Holden

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Seriously, what is Renee’s deal?! What we do know about Laurie’s involvement on The Americans: it makes perfect sense and it’s only made the show better. Sure, we love seeing Stan happily involved with a pretty lady, but we also love that Laurie plays the character in a way that makes us want to trust her, but know we fully can’t. So damn sneaky!

A bit less sneaky is how much Laurie has added to some of TV’s best dramas. This gal has stepped into the shoes of some super tough, smart, badass women on shows such as The Walking Dead, The X-Files, and The Shield, and if that’s not a lineup of prestige TV, then what even is?

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Laurie starred in the TV shows The Magnificent Seven, The X-Files, The Shield, and The Walking Dead before popping up on The Americans in 2017. She’s also had major roles in films such as The Majestic, The Mist, Silent Hill, Fantastic Four, and Dumb and Dumber To.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: After The Americans closes out its sixth and final season this spring, and we find out once and for all what Renee’s deal is!, you’ll be able to see Laurie in the crime thriller flick, Dragged Across Concrete, with Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn. And then, it’s simply a matter of time before she’s adding her magic to another lucky TV drama.
