Pixar is Developing Another CARS Project For Disney

It looks like Pixar isn’t finished with the Cars franchise as it’s been confirmed that a new Cars project is in development for Disney. This bit of news was revealed by Pixar creative director Jay Ward, who was recently interviewed at the 2023 Porsche Rennsport Reunion Event by The Late Brake Show.

During their conversation, Ward was asked about the possibility of more Cars projects and he admitted that they were working on something. But, that something isn’t going to be released any time soon. It’ll be a couple of years. Ward explained:

"There are more Cars things brewing, I can't say much more yet. Cars has got a life that will keep going. I am working on some real fun projects right now that you will see in a couple of years. It takes us a while to make them."

When talking about the franchise, Ward and Pixar didn’t realize just how big the franchise would become. He attributes the film’s popularity to home video at the time and said:

"It became so much bigger than we expected. It likes on and everyday a new child sees It for the first time, which we did not expect. The interesting thing was that Cars came out in 2006 and this is when DVDs were quite popular. It was popular theatrically when it came out, but it grew more popular. Throughout the end of the year and into the next year, more and more people saw it."

I enjoyed the first Cars film that Pixar made, but I didn’t really care for the sequels. Those just weren’t as good as the original and while Pixar will say that the sequels weren’t made for a cash grab, they totally were. Hopefully, whatever they are planning next will actually reach the bar set by the original film.

What are your thoughts on Pixar making more Cars films? I just would like them to do some more original stuff and break out of the box they’ve been in all these years. It’s time for Pixar to evolve and start try new things.
