Coolhaus Turns its LA Ice Cream Trucks Into Mobile Booze and Grocery Trucks

Here’s a new twist on restaurants offering takeout dry goods and CSA boxes around Los Angeles during the novel coronavirus pandemic: a mobile food, veggie, ice cream, and cocktail truck, rolling down LA streets shortly.

Bodega on Wheels, which starts next Tuesday, April 7, is a collaboration between the folks from the 101 Coffee Shop and upstairs drink spot MiniBar, plus Future Gin and local bottled cocktail company Vervet. The most unique part is the platform: the founders of popular ice cream brand Coolhaus are using their reformatted trucks to take the show on the road, literally.

The plan is to sell real food (think prepared sandwiches and other to-go options) as well as produce and pantry basics. There will be Coolhaus ice cream pints, sandwiches, and scoops, batched cocktails from MiniBar, canned cocktails from Vervet, gin and tonic kits from Future Gin, and more. Ten percent of proceeds from each sale will be donated to a few different local charities, like the LA Regional Food Bank and No Us Without You, which focuses on undocumented restaurant and bar staff.

“We can’t wait to roll out, and bring a little isolation salvation to people across Los Angeles,” says Jeremy Allen of 101 Coffee Shop and MiniBar over email, before adding excitedly: “It’s an ice cream truck with alcohol!”

Folks who want the Bodega on Wheels truck to roll up to them can start to pre-order packages later this afternoon on the website, with deliveries starting next Tuesday and running through Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The currently available radius is everywhere from Hollywood and the hills to Los Feliz, East Hollywood, Koreatown, Mid-City, Larchmont, the Miracle Mile, and over to Beverly Grove and West Hollywood. Delivery itself is free, but does require a minimum order of $50.
