The Danube cruise is a relaxing long (3.5 hours) glide through the city Danube canal, past the lock and into the actual Danube river. Then up river to the next lock (there is a midpoint station in between where you can debark off 3.5 hours is too much for you) and then back via the other lock.
Pretty slow- relaxed. Don't do if you want fast paced. For me it was a perfect sunny day after lots of walking yesterday- not much to see as far as landmarks go- we caught some sunshine, ordered our lunch in the inside deck: very good Wiener schnitzel and the prices were right- considering you're in a tourist cruise ship- we got some aperitifs and just relaxed the afternoon away. Cruise started at 2 pm and will end at 5:30 pm in time for our evening entertainment!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Donna L.Simi Valley, CA014Jul 17, 2023
Buyer beware. Very limited seating and forget about getting a seat outside - the area is the size of a postage stamp. They overbook for the amount of seats/tables available. What a mistake this was.

Buyer beware, poor organization, limited seating, and forget about being on deck if you're not first. Staff not helpful at all.

Great little cruise on Danube canal. Don't go inside to ticket window if you have Vienna pass just take stairs or lift down to the boat. There was a guy there who scanned tickets and let you on.
I think the seats in the front on level 2 are nice but so is the covered cabin. Aperol Spritz and wine were VERY reasonable. I've taken pictures of the menu for you. Do remember to tip 10%.
There's some commentary but it's not about that. It's just a relaxing thing to do. My husband loved it. Glad it was included on our pass.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Christine M.Manhattan, New York, NY02Jun 23, 2023
We took the 75 minute evening Danube Cruise with a group of students as part of their Austria experience.
However, the service was slow and one wait staff was very rude. Barely before the students had been seated and requested their beverage they were told they were taking too long to decide. While another wait staff was able to take the orders of other tables AND get their food to them. The wait staff of the students' tables ignored three tables, not taking their order neither for drinks or food.
Either they were short staffed, or should not offer a meal in that short amount of time. What is thoroughly unacceptable is the rude behaviour towards the students. Half the students were fed, half were not. This caused the evening plans to be cancelled as we had to find a place to feed them after the cruise. This was the final cultural event that was planned for our trip and unfortunate that it finished with this unpleasant experience. The cruise is nice, the boat clean and comfortable. But every aspect should be a positive and lasting experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dan S.Sacramento, CA04Sep 2, 2022
Don't do it. There are very few decent vantage points in the boat. The open air top deck was nice, but we were forced to move off after the first 10 minutes and crowd Into the sides of the lower deck with virtually no field of vision. We spent 20 mind-numbingly boring minutes navigating a canal lock. Even when you could scratch out a good viewpoint, there's really nothing to see on this route. We've been in Europe 30 days and this was the absolute worst waste of time and money -- by far. The only good thing was the 90-minute tour lasted only 80 minutes.

This was part of the Vienna Pass, so ya know, gotta get our money's worth. The worst waste of time ever! Over an hour down the drain. I seriously wanted to jump overboard and swim to shore.
Absolutely nothing to see. Zip, Zero, Zilch. The only reason that I'm rating it 2* is because the boat is clean and they have WiFi on board. So here I sit, on my trip on the Danube, writing my review on Yelp.
If you have the Vienna Pass, skip it. If you plan on paying for this, you're better off flushing those euros down the toilet. Or better yet, send them to me! Don't say I didn't warn you.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - T D.Secaucus, NJ0474Jun 18, 2019
Concurred with other (low ratings) reviewers- this is a waste of time and unlike other cities, there is not much of proper Vienna to see from the river.
The waiter on our boat is rude. Asking for extra forks/utensils was met with sarcastic expression and smart ass remark. I hope he is not a typical Viennese.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - L L.Chicago, IL328824122Sep 28, 2018
A nice relaxing 90 minute boat cruise included in our three day Vienna sightseeing bus + boat pass. The boat "Blue Danube" is clean and nice. Staff is friendly with coffee/beer for purchase aboard. Keep your expectations reasonable as the Danube is a quiet river running through the city center and residential areas. It is not hard to find - exit at Schwedenplatz subway station or take any of the electric trams running along the river to this stop. Walk down the stairs to river level and go left to far end where the last dock is located across from a riverfront restaurant with outdoors patio called Blumengase and Kindergarten Der Stadt Wien building. Walk upstairs into the glass window office to obtain boat vouchers or purchase tickets.

I paid 46 euros for a boat trip on the Danube for two people. At least that's what I thought I was paying for. It turns out I paid for a slow meander up the Danube CANAL, we never got to see the Danube river at all. And unless you are a big fan of grafitti the canal holds no interest to anyone.
You can of course cruise along the Danube itself, but that costs considerably more, and I was never offered the option anyway.
I don't know if the options are clear if you book online, but I just turned up at the boat, and it was not made clear to me that we would not be going on the Danube.
I found the 'cruise' bitterly disappointing. Very poor value for money indeed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
