US rapper Offset has said the death of his cousin and Migos bandmate Takeoff has left his heart "shattered".

Paying tribute publicly for the first time since Takeoff, real name Kirsnick Khari Ball, was fatally shot outside a bowling alley in Houston, Texas, Offset said his reality felt "like a nightmare" and that the pain is "unbearable".

Takeoff, 28, was a member of Migos along with Offset, real name Kiari Kendrell Cephus, and his uncle Quavo, real name Quavious Keyate Marshall. The trio rose to prominence with 2013 hit Versace, which became even more popular through a Drake remix.

Police have yet to make any arrests following the shooting on 1 November.

Sharing a statement on Instagram to his 20 million followers just over two weeks later, Offset wrote: "Dear Take, the pain you have left me with is unbearable.

"My heart is shattered and I have so many things to say, but I can't find the words.

"I've been going to sleep and waking up hoping that all of this is a dream, but it's reality, and reality feels like a nightmare.

"I wish I could hug you one last time. Laugh one last time. Smoke one last time. Perform one last time."

Offset, who is married to rapper Cardi B, went on to say that "someone with a soul like yours is in heaven now".

The 30-year-old continued: "I hope you can see how much we love you and miss you.

"You have left a hole in my heart that will never be filled. Give me strength, give your brothers strength, give your family strength.

"Even though I know you will always be with us, throw me a lil sign or a beautiful dream. I love you forever, 4L and after."

Takeoff was the youngest of the Migos trio.

Offset's statement follows a lengthy tribute by Quavo, 31, posted at the weekend, which described his nephew as "our angel".

The group's record label, Quality Control Music, said the rapper was killed by a "stray bullet" and condemned "senseless violence".

Following his death, hundreds of fans gathered to remember the rapper in Atlanta, near to where he grew up.

Rap musicians including Dave, Kid Cudi, Khalid and Ja Rule are among the stars who have paid tribute.
