Lauren Conrad and her husband have a long history together.

William Tell and the reality star turned lifestyle mogul first met when Conrad, who starred on MTV’s Laguna Beach and The Hills, was in high school.

Born in Orange County, California, in 1980, Tell grew up in the same area of SoCal as Conrad, though they didn’t start dating until 2012 when they were set up on a blind date.

Unlike her previous romances with Jason Wahler and Brody Jenner, Conrad’s relationship with Tell has been off-screen and out of the public eye.

Early in their relationship, Tell left his career as a musician to attend law school and is now a practicing attorney specializing in entertainment law. The couple wed in 2014 and went on to welcome two sons: Liam and Charlie.

Here’s everything to know about Lauren Conrad’s husband, William Tell.

He was a guitarist in the pop-rock band Something Corporate

Before he was a lawyer, Tell was a member of Something Corporate, a pop-rock band formed in Orange County, California, in 1998. Tell joined the group in 2001 as a guitarist and backup vocalist. In 2002, Something Corporate released their first album with their label MCA Records, Leaving Through the Window, which reached number one on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart and number 101 on the Billboard 200.

In 2004, Tell left the band to pursue a solo career, but ultimately decided to quit the music industry all together.

“I signed a solo deal a year or two after I left the band, went out and toured and did the whole thing,” he told Above the Law in 2014. “It got to the point where I was approaching 30, rapidly, and I hadn’t struck it big on my own. I’d had some success, but music is a young man’s business. You really need to be between 17 and 25 to break in, although there are exceptions.”

Tell reunited with his Something Corporate bandmates in 2023 for several shows, including a performance at the When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas and a two-night New Year's Eve run in Anaheim.

After leaving music, Tell decided he wanted to go to law school, so he completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California (USC), majoring in music business.

“I didn’t really want to go back to undergrad, but I had to get a college degree in order to go to law school,” he told Above the Law. “I wanted to go to law school because I’d always been fascinated by government, politics, history.”

Tell entered USC Gould School of Law in 2011 and graduated in 2014. Throughout his schooling, he interned at Warner Bros Records and entertainment law firm Ziffren Brittenham.

Though they wouldn’t date for another decade, Conrad first met Tell during her Laguna Beach days.

The couple met in a more official way 10 years later in 2012, when a friend set them up on a blind date for Valentine’s Day.

Soon after being set up for Valentine’s Day, Conrad and Tell made their relationship official and were seen stepping out together in public. Tell also began appearing on Conrad’s social media.

“Just looked at the calendar and realized it was a year and half ago today that I met this guy ... And I sure am glad I did ❤,” Conrad captioned an Instagram selfie from 2013.

The Little Market co-founder announced she was engaged to Tell in October 2013.

“I am very excited to share with you guys that William and I got engaged over the weekend,” the then-27-year-old wrote in a blog post. “I am beyond thrilled!”

Conrad and Tell got married a year later on Sept. 13, 2014, at a boutique winery in Santa Ynez, California.

Conrad’s nine bridesmaids, including her Laguna Beach and The Hills costar Lo Bosworth, wore a selection of dresses from her Paper Crown clothing line.

Guests included Conrad’s former costars Stephen Colletti and Frankie Delgado, who celebrated under a tent amid Mediterranean-style buildings, oak trees and acres of vineyards.

Three years after marrying, Conrad and Tell welcomed their first child, son Liam, on July 5, 2017. Conrad gave birth to their second son Charlie on Oct. 8, 2019.

In March 2020, the lifestyle guru opened up to PEOPLE about how she and Tell raise their sons.

"One of the things is just being a good role model. My husband [William Tell] and I work together and the amount of time spent at work and with the children is pretty equal between us,” she said. "You can tell children anything you want, but they're always watching you. It's really about what you do that makes the biggest impact. It's about setting a good example."

While Tell has an Instagram account, he rarely posts and prefers to keep his personal life private. He did, however, share a screenshot of Conrad’s podcast, Asking for a Friend, reaching the number one slot in May 2019.

“My wife!” he captioned the post.

In February 2021, Conrad offered an explanation for Tell’s lack of social media presence, saying he “hates photos."

“Happy Valentine’s Day!” she captioned a candid photo of Tell and her son during bathtime. “William hates photos, but I love him.”
