No. 23 Baseball drops series to Washington

The Longhorns dropped the second game of the series, 5-3, on Saturday.

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 23 Texas Baseball dropped its series to Washington with a 5-3 loss on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns (10-8) will look to salvage the series finale against the Huskies on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Ace Whitehead was outstanding in relief for the Longhorns, pitching a career-high seven shutout innings and allowing just one hit with four strikeouts.

Jalin Flores went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and two runs scored, while Will Gasparino also hit a solo home run.

Washington stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, including a two-run homer off of Texas starter Cody Howard.

The Huskies added two runs to the lead on free passes in the third to go up 5-0 before Whitehead came out of the bullpen to limit the damage. Howard departed after just two innings and five runs allowed.

Gasparino got the Longhorns on the board in the bottom of the third with a solo home run rocketed out to left field.

Flores hit his solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, off the monster in center field, to trim the lead to 5-2.

The Longhorns got their final run in the sixth after Flores doubled and scored on an RBI single by Porter Brown.
