From beachwear to interior design: Amir Slama signs collection for MMartan

The Brazilian stylist Amir Slama has just signed a collab with home textiles brand MMartan. The launch has four lines inspired by prints developed by the beachwear designer throughout his career, which in 2020 celebrated three decades of existence.

Both Amir and the MMartan brand owner, Coteminas, are participants of Texbrasil (Internationalization Program of the Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry) – the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association – Associação Brasileira da Indústria Têxtil e de Confecção) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments – Agência Brasileira de Promoção de Exportações e Investimentos).

“We dress outside, but dressing the bed has to do with fashion, they are universes that dialogue very well. We end up bringing color, vibrancy, and exquisite things”, declares the stylist during the live on a social media of the collection’s launch, led by the digital influencer Camila Coutinho.

This collab prints bedspreads, sheets, pillow covers, and towels. In all, Amir designed four proposals for MMartan, which has been in the CAMEBA market for over 20 years: Sol, Serpente, Mostera e Marajoara. (Sun, Serpent, Monstera, and Marajoara.)

The stylist explains the history and inspiration behind the Sol line: “It is one of my first prints, a sun drawing, which vibrates energy, a warming idea,” he says. Amir also reveals that the print carries a strong Latin American symbolism.

The Marajoara line, on the other hand, is a re-reading of the traces present in ceramics developed by the culture of Marajó Island, located in Northern Brazil. The theme of Brazilianness is recurrent in the stylist’s creations. During the launch, Amir said that his big challenge is to be able to spread these local references outwards, communicating Brazilian history and culture to the universe.

Beachwear

Since 2011, Amir has owned a beachwear brand that bears his name. Amir Slama parades recurrently at SPFW and has his own stores in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, betting on themes that mix the urban and contemporary with the history of Brazil.

Amir was one of the stylists who boosted Brazilian fashion in the 2000s, thanks to his creations at Rosa Chá. The designer has dressed top models like Naomi Campbell and Isabeli Fontana in fashion weeks around the world.
