Peter Dinklage’s latest role will be a big departure from Game of Thrones’ Tyrion Lannister.

It’s been revealed the popular actor will be joining Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey in this year’s Wicked movie by voicing the character of Dr Dillamond the Goat - an animal professor!

Wicked tells the story of future Wicked Witch of the West Elphaba Thropp (Erivo), in an onscreen adaptation of the popular Broadway and West End musical Wizard of Oz prequel of the same name.

Talking goat Dr. Dillamond teaches in Wicked's fictional world’s Shiz University, but faces discrimination as a result of being one of its only animal professors. The fan-favourite character joins the main story as he becomes friends with Elphaba.

Dinklage’s involvement in the much-anticipated movie musical adaptation (which will be released in two parts) was revealed at Universal’s CinemaCon 2024 presentation on 10th April.

And while the Cyrano star was not present for his casting announcement, audiences at the announcement were graced with the presence of lead stars Erivo and Grande, as well as some exclusive footage of the upcoming movie.

Celebrating their film, Grande told those present at the convention she and Erivo “both felt such a tremendous responsibility to honour [Elphaba and Glinda] and to pour our hearts, our souls, our tears” and “so many different pairs of lashes!” Variety reports. Erivo added “I’m really grateful for this journey that we’ve taken together.”

Also at the event was Jon M. Chu, both Wicked movies’ director. He teased audiences: “We dreamed very, very, very, big for Wicked. We wanted to honour the source material. But we also wanted to create a new world of its own - a magical land full of sights and sounds that will astonish.”

Meanwhile Universal’s domestic distribution president Jim Orr quipped: “This holiday season, we intend to turn your theatre green in every sense of the word. You got that, right? Y’all are wicked smart.”

Wicked (Part One) will hit cinemas on 27th November.
