Mortal Kombat 1 – Ermac Fatalities and Strategy Guide

Mortal Kombat 1

Like previous entries in the series, Mortal Kombat 1 is rolling out plenty of DLC fighters, with the game’s first “Kombat Pack” including Omni-Man from Invincible, Quan Chi, Peacemaker from Suicide Squad, Ermac, Homelander from The Boys, and Takahashi Takeda.

The latest of these DLC characters, who officially joins the roster today, is Ermac. But how does this fan-favorite kombatant, who started as an urban legend before joining the series for real, actually play? And perhaps more importantly, how do you pull off his gruesome Fatalities? Don’t worry, we’ll quickly get you up to speed on the ins and outs of Ermac…

As you can see, each Fatality has to be performed a certain distance away from your opponent. If you want to get a better sense of what we mean by “close," "mid," and "far,” just choose Learn from the main menu then pop into Fatalities, and the game will show you the exact ranges you need to be standing at. Every fighter in MK1 has a pair of Fatalities – one that’s available from the start and one that won’t be added to your move list until you unlock them (here’s how you can do that). That said, you can still do all Fatalities, even if they haven’t been officially unlocked, if you know the right inputs.

Here’s how to pull off Ermac’s two Fatalities:

  • Vitruvian Maim – Down, Forward, Down, Back Kick (Mid)
  • Fatality #2 – Back, Forward, Back, Back Punch (Mid)

Ermac doesn’t deal out huge amounts of damage, but he is a very promising mid-range combo-heavy rushdown kombatant. Ermac doesn’t necessarily have a ton of low combo-starter moves, but he does have a ton of abilities that will launch your opponent into the air. A lot of his strings then allow you to easily continue the combo in the air, then smack your opponent down to the ground. You can also use Ermac’s levitate move to string together lengthy, complex air-juggle combos. Combine this with Ermac’s ability to summon various souls to assist him, many of which will hit your opponent from above, below, or behind, and you have a ton of options for ping-ponging your opponents all over. If you’re style is all about keeping your opponent on their toes and off their feet, Ermac’s the guy for you.

Best Kameo tag-team partners: The new Kameo fighter Mavado isn’t available yet, so I can’t comment on him. That said, Kung Lao and Frost have a number of good low combo-starter moves that should make up for some of Ermac’s weaknesses.

Mortal Kombat 1 can be played on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch. The Kombat Pack that includes Peacemaker will set you back $40 and is also included in the MK1’s $110 Ultimate Edition. You can check out more of Wccftech’s Mortal Kombat 1 guides here.
