Miami’s MiMo district, where he is about to inaugurate his new showroom, served as major inspiration for Angel Sanchez’s spring collection. The Venezuelan designer presented a concise lineup of 12 elegant, beautifully crafted pieces — “some of the styles my clients really want to wear,” he said during an appointment at the Bryant Park Hotel.
The city’s effortless, laid-back attitude and its signature tones echoed in the dresses, which revealed Sanchez’s couture skills. Drapes, pleats and asymmetric cuts added movement to the collection, which ranged from a soft, knee-length cocktail frock to more dramatic gowns, including a silk gazar black-and-white design with a sensual front cutout and exquisite acetate flowers decorating its shoulders. Mirrors cut in curved, floral-inspired shapes added subtle sparkle to a pink one-shouldered style, which looked delicate and fresh.
