Video: Armored Guarani is loaded onto the FAB KC-390 for the first time

Brazilian Army Guarani tank is loaded onto the FAB KC-390 for the first time

The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and the Brazilian Army follow acting in partnership to get more capabilities with the tactical freighter KC-390 Millennium. For the first time, the Guarani armored car was loaded onto the multi-mission jet.

According to the Army, the Armored Instruction Center (CI Bld), together with the “FAB and Embraer Research Institute”, conducted one more stage of the operational evaluation of the KC-390.

The images released by the Army this Tuesday (25) show the boarding of the armored vehicle and the takeoff of the jet manufactured by Embraer. It is possible to identify the Esquadrão Gordo (1st/1st WG) wafer on the overalls of the Air Force soldiers, who guide the Guarani boarding.

From the video, it is possible to identify that the joint action was carried out at the Santa Maria Air Base, in Rio Grande do Sul, a city in the state that is also the headquarters of the CI Bld. Another two armored vehicles on M113 tracks were taken to the base, but it is not known whether they were also loaded onto the KC-390 like the Guarani.

In May 2017, two years before the delivery of the first KC-390 to the FAB, Embraer completed tests for vehicle loading certification, using a structure that simulated the jet's cargo compartment. In addition to the M113 and the Guarani, the Chivunk jeep, employed by the paratroop infantry, and an airborne Rosenbauer Panther fire engine were used.

The Guarani Medium Armored Personnel Transport Vehicle (VBTP-MR) is produced by Iveco to replace the Engesa Urutu, from the 1970s. Also in October, the manufacture of the 600th unit of the armored vehicle was celebrated.

Second o Army, the 6×6 amphibious vehicle weighs 20 tons (six less than the maximum capacity of the KC-390), is capable of carrying 11 crew members and can be armed with a 30 mm cannon or 7,62 mm machine guns and . 50 BMG.
