This is just one of a series of books that are just wonderful to have. The book itself is about 5" square and about an inch thick. Each page is a wonderfully reproduced image of a significant piece of artwork from the era, including paintings, furniture, architecture, sculpture, etc. Some works are world-renowned while others will be new discoveries to the reader. Each facing page is basically a museum plaque, with the title of the work and the artist along with a brief about the piece and a little history to go with it.
They are not the sort of book that one would sit down and read cover to cover, but it is pleasant during a pause to pick up one of these, thumb through it until something catches your eye, and then to read a little about it. They are great to set out for company or handy as a reference if you find yourself talking about art. Any fan or student of great works of art should own this or other books from the series.
