    Product Description

    Product Description

Record studio-quality audio directly to your computer via USB with the CAD U37 side-address condenser microphone-a great choice for both vocal and instruments as well as for creating podcasts and voiceovers for videos. Compatible with both Windows and Mac OS operating systems, you can simply plug the U37 into your PC and start recording. The U37 has two switches on the front. The first switch allows you to decrease the sensitivity of the microphone so the sound quality is clear for extremely loud sounds. For example, the switch should be in the "-10" position for loud voices, percussion and other high sound pressure level devices. The "0" position should be used for normal voices and string instruments. The second switch on the U37 is designed to reduce pickup of deep-bass sounds. The switch should be in the "Normal Bass" mode in most cases. However, if you want to remove wind noise, ventilation noise, or decrease the low frequencies in a recording, the switch should be in the "Bass Reduction" position.

    The stand is crap
    4 Stars
    The stand is crap
I haven't had a chance to test the mic yet, but I trust the good reviews here. Regarding the stand, it is badly designed and pretty unstable. It's designed to fold up flat for easy transportation, which it does well and becomes rather compact, and although the plastic is pretty sturdy feeling it is not very stable. A light push would knock over the mic.The stem is metal and 3/8 inch thread, so it's too skinny for my pop filter to get a good grip on it. the filter's clamp won't even tighten enough to hold on to the stem. If you plan to use the mount on another stand it will need to be 3/8 also. The mount looks pretty solid itself. It would allow you to swing the mic back so it is inverted an would reduce the height of the whole setup for storage purposes, but I wouldn't use this mount on a floor based mic stand or anything that is not on a rigid base and vertical post. Also note that this stand will give you no isolation from vibrations from the surface it is sitting on.Buy it for the mic and get a better stand. I intend to order these:On Stage DS7200B Adjustable Desk Microphone Stand, Blackand On Stage MY410 Studio Microphone Shock Mount, ChampagneIt looks like the shock mount will hold this size mic with a little padding inserted, and the mount looks like it will fit on the stand.Minus one star because of the stand, which alone I would give one star. The mic probably deserves five stars.UPDATE: I received the above mentioned stand and shock mount and they do indeed fit each other and are made by the same company. The mic fits in the mount very nicely without any padding, and my pop filter clamps to the stand stem just right. Very nice looking set up, and very stable.

Style: USB Large Diaphragm Cardioid MicVerified Purchase
At first I was going to give this mike 4 stars because I'm a perfectionist and I've seen better studio mikes. But those studio mikes were expensive; this one is under $50. Therefore, 5 stars. Here's why:

    PROS:
    * Good quality recording with variable settings on the mike itself
    * Very easy to install. No driver software-- just plug it in and it works
    * Responsive cyan LED to help indicate power / recording level
    * Excellent size. When set on a table it's at just about the perfect height for recording
    * Surprisingly good sound quality, especially for a mike this light-weight and low-priced
    * Neat little table tripod stand, easy to set up and use
    * Comes with generous-length cable

    CONS:
None really. Terrific little mike. These are more "be aware of these things when recording":
    * This is (as advertised) a studio mike. It is really, really, really sensitive and will pick up all sounds in the room-- including computer fans and a small 10" room fan I had set on low about 6 feet away. Such noise of course can be easily overcome in post-processing using a program such as Audacity (available free on the Net) or other music processing software.
    * That said, it has a "bass switch" that provides reduction of background noise by reducing mike sensitivity for some sound levels.
    * That said... the bass switch also alters the overall quality of recording sound. This can also be adjusted via post-processing.
    * THAT said... it's best to record in an enclosed room using a tablet or laptop with as little fan sound as possible, because this WILL pick up all sound in the room. It's meant to do so to provide distortion-free recording.

For best recording I use this with my Windows tablet (zero fan noise, easy portability and setup). The result is a very effective "recording studio" which does a good job for not a lotta cash. Quality Windows tablets today can be purchased for around $200. So that along with this mike and free downloaded software provides a good recording environment that will suit the needs of many users. And of course it functions perfectly as a high-quality computer mike for Skype or other chat purposes.

    WHAT TO EXPECT:
A good-quality voice and instrument recording mike. Solo voice/guitar? Yes. Computer voice mike? Yes but it will pick up background noise. Group mike? Yes, it's a studio mike; it picks up sound well.

    WHAT NOT TO EXPECT:
Don't expect $300 + $20 wind screen sound recording from this. It has very good sound recording, but there are better mikes on the market if your budget allows. However if you're on a limited budget and want GOOD results and would like a USB mike that plugs right into your computer, I don't believe this can be beat. I've purchased several microphones and this has as good a quality sound recording as any mike I have purchased.

This isn't a "band" mike. This is for use in "studio conditions" (ie, in a closed environment without background noise) directly plugged into your computer's USB port. Used as an outdoor mike at a concert or such... well I haven't tried that yet. Typically studio mikes are not good for such. Used in live performance: no. The background noise pickup and feedback potential would be immense.

    SOLO STUDIO RECORDING:
Because it does pick up external noise you can play it with an acoustic instrument without miking the instrument separately; it will pick up about the same quality and positioning as the human ear. Interestingly this mike seems to work better from 12 inches than the standard 2 to 4 inches that most recording mikes prefer. I got excellent results when recording at 12". At 2" from the mouth the sound is still excellent but one gets the feeling of "really not necessary and is actually too much". 12" or even further seems perfect, which is great news for solo acoustic guitar performers.

This mike would work equally well running an electric guitar through an amp and setting the amp to the side. The mike has such faithful reproduction of sound it should lose little or nothing in the distance translation.

In short, a terrific mike for studio recording. If you're looking for an inexpensive quality studio microphone, this is well worth your consideration.

It's all that I wanted and all that I'll ever need, and it's excellent for the price. The build quality is great, with a double-layered metal mesh protecting the important bits of the microphone inside, as well as a sturdy plastic shell and plastic bar helping to hold it together, and though it still is plastic, it's a very sturdy, almost metallic kind of plastic that looks great and holds together well. The microphone is much smaller than I thought it would be and because of this, it feels much sturdier. This product can undoubtedly survive a short drop with little to no damage, aside from cosmetic damage.

This microphone connects via USB cable, with a cord included. On my Windows 7 PC, it simply installed the driver software, prompted to restart, and was ready to go, all within the span of five minutes. My computer seemed to recognize it as a speaker as well because of the USB connection, so this is something you will have to correct manually by setting your speaker to default after setup is complete.

As for the quality, it's amazingly clear and filters out background noises fairly well. The loudest noises it would filter out were my computer fan and the TV in another room, but louder sounds like my heater and my hamster's wheel weren't filtered. This microphone works great for Skype, as well as audio recording programs like Audacity. This microphone records best when you are anywhere between a few inches to two feet away. Anything past two feet and it starts to lose you, but this is no problem as it mounts easily to most stands and Just keep in mind that it may not be able to filter out all of the background noise going on around you as well as higher priced microphones might be able to.

The only major problem I had with this microphone was the tripod. Not only did it take a while to figure out how to set it up (as no instruction manual is included), it's designed to fold together for easy transport with two small legs and one large leg, but makes the microphone fairly unstable. It's almost fallen off of my desk because of the weight added to one side by my pop filter.

Another, very minor problem I had was that whenever the microphone is plugged in, a blue light goes on on the front of the microphone, and when it records, this blue light flashes until recording is over. It may not sound like it, but this can actually be fairly distracting when you're trying to focus on something else, because this microphone doesn't record as well when it's not within 45 degrees of where you're facing, so it's best to have it somewhere in front of you. Though it's easy to get past, it's still something to be noted.

So, overall, the sound is very clear, clear enough to be something I might expect out of a microphone that I might buy for upwards of $100. The background noise filtering works well enough for the price, but you may have to find a time as quiet as you can to record if you can't really do with background noises in your recording or call. The build is very, very sturdy, with tough plastic and two layers of real metal mesh that will hold up for as long as you need it to. The tripod could be better and makes the mic a little unstable, but works well enough.

This is a great microphone, very responsive, true to sound. I found free software from CNET to facilitate recording, but even "out of the box" it does a great job. Really plug and play, as far as I am concerned. The instruction sheet is for both Mac and PC, and with only two switches to manipulate, hard to get it wrong. It arrived on time, well-packaged (packed with paper, not plastic, except for the card packaging from the manufacturer). I am very happy with the microphone, its price, and Amazon's delivery. Thanks.

I'm very impressed with this microphone: the quality is superb, with nice tone and a great balance between cutting out background noise, and not requiring you to press your face into the microphone: the noise levels were just about "right" for every distance I'm likely to be from the microphone.

The two switches to modify the gain and bass response are very useful, and give a quick way to adjust the sound without having to fiddle with equaliser settings. They aren't perfect, but seem to work well for most normal setups.

The quality isn't quite up to par with the top end microphones, but then it costs significantly less. I'd consider this microphone to be competitive with units costing twice as much, and am properly impressed with the quality/value balance. You get a lot for your money, and I really can't think of any reason, unless I was a musician recording an album, where I might want to spend more than this
