A colorful, geometric shelving unit designed by Charlotte Perriand.

Influential French architect and designer Charlotte Perriand (1903–1999), known for the modern steel, aluminium, and glass furniture she created as part of the early modern movement, designed this circa-1954 bibliothèque, or bookcase. Crafted from solid oak, oak veneer, painted diamond-point aluminum, painted aluminum, and painted steel, the piece was manufactured by Les Ateliers Jean Prouvé, France. Alexander von Vegesack, founder of Vitra Design Museum and Domaine de Boisbuchet design camp, is selling the work to benefit Boisbuchet’s nonprofit association.

Bibliothèque by Charlotte Perriand, 100.5" w. x 13" d. x 46.75" h.; Phillips, New York, December 16; estimate $250,000 to $350,000. phillips.com
