First American Edition. 8vo. xvi, 617pp, index, full old leather, spine missing, boards detached but present, upper outer corner of leaf 151/152 was torn away cleanly and has been repaired very neatly with archival tape, title-page reinforced on verso with archival tape, mildew-staining noted at many pages, sometimes moderate, sometimes light, more noted at first and final several pages (please note the mildew stains are old and the text is completely dry with no active mildew, nor any dampness, nor odor), occasional water-staining noted at spine edge of internal pages, and bottoms of 40 or so rear pages, top edge somewhat darkened, frontis illustration torn mostly away; both half-titles present. Text is basically disbound. The First American Edition. Includes Part I: Voyage from Copenhagen to Brazil, the South Sea, Kamchatka and Japan, and Part II: Voyage to the Aleutian Islands and the North-West Coast of America, and Return by Land Over the Northeast Parts of Asia Through Siberia to Petersburgh. Includes sections on Sitka, Alaska, and the settlement at Saint Francisco, or San Francisco. Also includes a section titled, Vocabulary of the Language of Nukahiwa, and a section titled, Specimens of the Languages Spoken Among Different Tribes of the Ainu. A challenged copy overall, but certainly worth owning now and possibly upgrading later. Additional pictures on request as only allows five..
