AVON, Ohio -- Students in grades three through five at Heritage Elementary School in Avon are participating in the annual yearbook design contest. All students who submit a colored drawing will be featured someplace in the yearbook.
The winner’s drawing will grace the front cover, with several runners-up on the back cover. The other entries will be featured among the 75 to 80 pages of the yearbook itself.
Principal Jen Fitch and Assistant Principal Nora Fox coordinate the contest.
“Kids are super excited about the contest,” said Fox, “and get super excited to use their own creativity and ideas.”
All entries must be in by the end of the school day Friday, Jan. 10, and meet the following requirements:
- All entries must be on an 8 1/2-by-11 sheet of paper in portrait format (vertical) rather than landscape (horizontal)
- Must include the student’s name clearly written on the front
- Must be in color
- Must include the words “Avon Heritage Elementary” (spelled correctly)
- Must have the school year “2019-2020” somewhere on the cover
Year after year, the Heritage yearbook that comes out in May contains individual photos of all students, candid shots of kids and staff in various school activities, as well as group photos of kids in different clubs and activities.
Fitch and Fox agree that the yearbook “is a way to get to know the other students and is a reflection of their experiences at the school. It is also an opportunity to show your school spirit.”
The 2019 yearbook reflected many school experiences, as well as a lot of eagles -- the school mascot, purple-and-gold color combinations representing the school colors, a lot of drawings of the school building and even some attempts at cartoons.
Fitch and Fox encourage all students to try their hand at a contest drawing to “show your Heritage pride.”
