Some people dislike Hooters as they feel it objectifies women. Now a gay bar, Boxers, has spread and opened up all over NY and Pennsylvania with plans to open other locations up, that many are labeling the Gay Hooters. The whole story can be read here
Gym Sportsbar another bar similar to Boxers has 3 different bars in three different states,
The bars are being compared to Hooters due the the buff-semi-nekkid employees to the type of food that they serve.
They also do good work for the community:
Boxers has focused squarely on various underserved bases: blue-collar, low-key, outer-borough and uptown gays. Boxers bills itself as hosting the city’s largest black- and Latino-focused gay parties, each at about 600 people weekly, and also has run Arab- and Asian-focused parties.
I am not sure if Hooters can make any such claim, but of course a lot of people just come in for the eye candy…. but is that a bad thing? Also the owners see, to shy away from the Hooters link..trying to see themselves as a gay version of Cheers.
So.. is this type of bar just a male version of Hooters? If so is this OK (in the same way that Hooters is?) or if it is like Hooters, in the objectification of its staff, is it just as bad? Or is it not like Hooters at all?
