Earth Day craft to teach kids to reduce, reuse, recycle!

Hey guys! In celebration of Earth Day, I want to show you how to make a really cool recycled robot collage! All you need is some paint, a piece of old cardboard, some junky stuff from around your house, and your imagination. Thereʼs inspiration everywhere, Recycle, Repurpose, Reuse! Level of difficulty: Easy

This craft is appropriate for kids aged 4 years and older and may require some adult assistance. Children 8+ may be able to do this craft unassisted, except for the use of Hot Glue Gun which requires adult supervision. Let's make a robot!

List of materials you will need:

• Piece of cardboard around 11x17, small boxes for body and head, cereal box or aluminum pan to cut up for body parts
• Odds and ends- old buttons, plastic utensils, small old toys, beads, pasta, shells, clothes pins, bottle caps, wire, straws, small hardware
• White glue (Elmers Glue All) or hot glue gun
• Scissors
• Paint brushes
• Faber-Castell Tempera Paint

The Background

Paint the cardboard background any way you like, bright and solid, stripes, fun patterns, or polka dots!

Create more interest and texture to your background by dragging a comb through the wet paint, spatter with another color, or make rings by dipping a cup or cap in white and stamping it. Donʼt try to be too perfect, just have fun!

The Robot

After the paint has dried(about 10 minutes) it is time to make your robot. Create him however you like, using box lids for the body, and arms and legs cut from cereal boxes, old cardboard, or anything else you have found; itʼs up to you! An Aluminum Pan Man is fun too! Layout Your robot body any way you like and glue him in place.

Decorate your robot any way you wish with your odds and ends. Use your imagination, be clever!
