Bom dzorno. Pisu u stary na pocitaci, takze nemam hacky a carky za coz se vsem fanouskum kvalitni literarni zurnalistiky s diakritikou omlouvam. Ja stejne nevim, co na diakritice vsichni vidi - ja vuci diabetikum nikdy kriticky nebyl.
Spijoni od Luise Verissimo jsou svandovni literarni taskarice, o skupine postarsich magoru, kteri se rozhodnou vydat do jednoho mensiho mesta, aby zachranili zenu, ktera je v ohrozeni sveho zivota; chce se totiz zabit - pokud vam to zni povedome, ano, je to brazilska verze zname ceske veselohry Bartosova - Macura, Rychtar. Cely se to samozrejme zamota jako moje nohy v patek vecer a dospeje to k naprosto jinemu konci, ktery je kupodivu temny jako hrnek kvalitni cerne kavy Jacobs.

I read this short book as a palate cleanser between two more serious works. I've read three Verissimo books now, and this is my second favorite. It reminded me in a lot of ways of Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. A large cast of characters is assembled and irresistibly drawn to the sleepy Brazilian town of Frondosa, where they all meet their destinies in surprising ways. It's got that dry Brazilian humor, but there were scenes that made me howl with laughter at their absurdity. I had to order my copy from the UK, but if you can get your hands on a copy, it's well worth spending some time with.

This is an entertaining Brazilian novel with a strong element of humour to it, in the mold of Antoine Laurain.
At the outset the narrator is at a low point in his life, stagnating at work in a friend's publishing house, and on the point of estrangement from his wife and son. He is sent the first chapter of a novel hoping for publication the the mail, from an Ariadne. He is drawn to it, not so much by the literary quality, but by vague threats of suicide and the element of mystery surrounding it. Helped by his drinking mates and colleagues he resolves to find more out.
What materialises is a pleasant read, a mystery that doesn't take itself too seriously.

O autor parece ser fã do gênero policial e espionagem, estilo recorrente em seus romances. Gosto muito da irreverência do autor, mas o considero melhor cronista. Suas crônicas são impagáveis e inesquecíveis, cheias de humor. Seus romances sempre me passam a impressão de serem um pouco forçados e sem conteúdo.

Conforme li na crítica que me indicou esse livro, esse é um “cruzamento híbrido entre livro policial, crônica de costumes e humor”.
Fora a parte de crônica de costumes, contudo, nenhum dos gêneros desse livro acerta muito bem o alvo.
Com isso, quero falar que essa foi uma leitura bem O.K., isto é, até que é boa para se distrair, mas não é nada espetacular.

A fost foarte OK.Personajele au fost cam ciudate,poate și puțin misogine(cred că asta era și ideea).Dar a mers repede iar finalul da,chiar a fost interesant.Nu pot spune că nu m-am așteptat la asta,am făcut-o,dar a fost destul de enjoyable.(ideea unică,din punctul mei de vedere)

The premise is great: book editor takes a work of fiction for a real-life account of tragic events and intervenes. But all the virtues of Verissimo's Borges book are negated here: plotting is slight, clues lead nowhere, and, most importantly, the book-within-the-book that launches the plot is just not compelling enough to make believable all the commotion that it causes. Some appealing character vignettes and small town eccentricities here, but very little substance.

I had read the first chapter in the brazilian version of GRANTA, and I was really surprised!
The book starts very well, you want to know more about the drunk editor who approves books depending on how hung over he is, about the mysterious girl who writes to the editor telling her story, about the town the girl lives in, which apparently is now controlled by her husband and his brother.
But as the story unfolds, it loses its strength. It an alright read, light and fun, but there's no substance after the first chapters, and by the end of the book, you don't even care about the characters. The feeling is that of a pretty, but juice less fruit.

Involving and easy reading . I was able to read it all in just one single night ( couldn't stop reading it) and i think of it as some really good piece of literature mixing investigation, comedy, romance, suspense and drama with a big touch of intelligent critical humour.

Eu acredito que Dubin, Fluvio e a Ariadne, resumem bem a experiecia de leitura me chamam mais a atenção e a reflexão. Dubin encontrou um amor, se entregou a uma ilusão só pq queria sair da rotina, e viu que o mundo é um lugar muito mais louco que a nossa imaginação. Fluvio a vaidade leva a gente pro buraco, escrever é perigoso demais, como falar, esse livro me surge como uma luva, depois de muitos perigos que passei por falar demais, mas o azar e a sorte andam muito ligados , Fluvio teve o azar eu sabado passado tive sorte, pq se tivesse azar estaria com Fluvio Edmarm. Ariadne aiaiai vai tomar no cu, rushei o livro por sua descrição, sua forma de escrever, quem diria que seria só uma rapper, eu não vejo menos brilho em citar e readaptar outros autores, acho que refirgera e da encanto as obras, mas no caso o modo que foi se desabrochando a descoberta de Paula descrita como futil e menos intelectual percebendo o que n irei dizer, é muito bom, o professor Fortuna, maluco do caraleo, no fim das contas ser quem tinha razão me fez dar gargalhadas, aquelas garagalhadas em que vc fica se sentindo mal por rir, todos ali pagaram preços por escrever, eu tb to pagando, comcei a escrever uma carta de amor, acho que ler esse livro me fez pensar em abandonar essa ideia, ai graças a deus as pessoas estão parando de ler e escrever, isso é um sofrimento muito grande, tipo esse livro, é um suspense comico, fiquei com um caralhada de reflexões as quais n tenho com quem compartilhar e porra isso me consome, se vc n externalza algumas coisas vai ficar só o seu pensamento como opinião o que é perigosissimo, mas se vc externaliza a leitura pessoas que n a fazem vão lhe falar isso "voce vir falar de mil coisas suas que ngm perguntou e q talvez nao seja a hora de voce trazer pra conversa", nunca vai ser a hora, pra vc que lê e está nesse rede social meus sinceros sentimentos e espero que um dia todos nos morremos e só restem videos e audios, pois ai sim o mundo vai ser um pouco mais feliz.

part satire, part love letter to the detective genre, the spies is a charming metafictional puzzle that explores the fantasies that arise from the bleeding boundaries between fiction and reality. a literature graduate turned dipsomaniac, our narrator’s newfound obsession with the mysterious writings of an irresistibly sad young wife (of course) cajoles him out of his drunkenness into action—giving him the opportunity to enact his fantasies of espionage, as well as his fantasies of becoming her saviour, into action.
the narrator tells us readers of his love with le carré, simenon and other quintessential crime authors but this novel possesses far more similarities with the literary puzzles found in the works of borges and nabokov. indeed, veríssimo’s style is highly literary and wryly charming (there’s an amusing line about how most people in town come to confession not to divulge their own sins, but to hear others confess instead) but i do think that the disaffected tone, especially when the narrator was supposedly in the throes of obsession, created an intentional sense of distance even during the of the novel. perhaps this was the point, so there’s no definitive separation between “fiction” and “reality” by the end of the novel. but i do prefer the approach of ernesto sabato’s the tunnel, another parody of the detective novel dealing with obsession and conspiracy, where the perversity of the situation is tackled not in a light manner that pokes fun at the bizarreness of it all, but is underscored in more depth.

The protagonist, a married father-of-one, is a publisher with a healthy disdain for his authors.More time and energy is spent among the motley crew of eccentric regulars at nearby Bar do Espanhol than his office. By his own admission, most of the manuscripts received go straight into the bin; the luckier ones may receive a particularly scathing rejection letter. Na stolu urednika male izdavačke kuće završava misteriozni početak knjige za koji doznaje da ga je napisala Arijadna, žena biznismena sumnjiva morala. I naravno kako to ide urednik i njegovi prijatelji iz birtije kreću u suludu pustolovinu kako bi je spasili.
Ova knjiga je imala jedan od najduhovitijih početaka ikada. Napravila sam pogrešku i počela je čitati u kafiću dok sam čekala prijateljicu i uvjerena sam kako su svi prisutni mislili da sam luda s obzirom na to koliko sam se smijala. Knjiga je sama po sebi spaljena, prepuna pomalo ekscentričnih, no opet koliko-toliko realnih likova.
Ima li određenih problema? Da. Kraj knjige nakon preduhovitog početka i domišljate sredine je kao šamar mrtvom ribom. Em se raspadne, em ostane samo smrad. Isto tako, trenutak kad glavni junak slini nad slikom 15-godišnjakinje koja je u tom trenutku odrasla žena je jednostavno creepy i to nije trebalo.
Mjesto gdje se radnja događala kao i likovi su bili nevjerojatni, te mi je u neku ruku pomalo žao što više vremena nije posvećeno njima.

Um raro caso em que a quebra de expectativa foi dura demais. O autor construiu um mistério divertido (a seu modo típico) com algumas piadas divertidas sobre o mundo editorial e sobre a vida em pequenas cidades do interior. É empolgante ver que esta construção vai ganhando corpo e deixando o leitor ao mesmo tempo curioso e com um leve sorriso no rosto enquanto anseia por mais piadas e a conclusão do mistério criado.
Mas, sabe-se lá porquê, o Luis decidiu implodir a estória inteira no anti-climax mais sem graça que eu já vi. Ele fez de tudo pra sabotar a própria estória... e conseguiu!
Em algum lugar do cemitério de Frondosa (cidade principal da trama) ou da casa do Luis Fernando deve jazer o manuscrito da versão boa desse livro. Eu vou dormir com a esperança de que algum dia ele vá desenterrar esse manuscrito e republicar essa história refeita.

Existe uma discussão frequente no mundo literário sobre se para ter uma grande obra literária é preciso ter um elevado número de páginas. A resposta não é simples, pois de fato tem varios livros de apenas 100 páginas que são grandes livros (“Sustem Pereira”, de Tabucchi, “O Carteiro de Neruda”, de Skarmeta, etc). “Os espiões” fica perto de essa categoria de grandes livros pequenos. Tal vez com alguma pequena mudança poderia ficar mais claro nessa categoria.
“Os espiões” é um livro meio thriller meio de humor que começa muito bem, mostra um escenario claro da história do livro, e vá incluindo de a poucos novos personagens, com suas circunstâncias. É um livro que está muito bem ou simplesmente bem, e que vai de mais a menos. Como se Veríssimo tivesse começado o livro com muita força e muita vontade, e no curso da escrita ficara meio... vazio?
É por isso que “os espiões” não vai passar à história como um dos poucos grandes livros pequenos. É simplesmente um bom livro.

Como eu já esperava de uma obra de Luis Fernando Verissimo, achei a leitura agradabilíssima. Não é hilária como alguns de seus contos e crônicas, mas no geral o aspecto um pouco absurdo/ingênuo da história faz pairar um ar de graça durante todo o romance. A reviravolta era bastante previsível, mas ainda assim, foi satisfatória quando aconteceu (só achei que demorou um pouquinho pra acontecer). Não tenho uma parte e nem um personagem favorito, na verdade o que mais gostei foi a mobilização dos colegas do personagem principal na Operação Teseu, e como todos eles acabaram sendo transformados pela iniciativa.

Als hij een geheim manuscript krijgt toegestuurd wil hij het mysterie achter het boek achterhalen. Dat levert een hilarisch verhaal op met verwijzingen naar John le Carré, Graham Green, Dostojevskin Machado de Assis en de klassieken.

I zaista.
Granica između stvarnosti i fikcije, između laži i istine, između apsurdnog i apsurdnijeg je veoma nejasna u ovom kratkom romanu u prilično lošem prevodu sa portugalskog Jovana Tatića. Neodoljiva privlačnost priče daje posebnu draž romanu.

"Formei-me em Letras e na bebida busco esquece". Com essa frase que a história fantástica, policial, mitológica e literária dos espiões começam, seguindo o fio seguro por Ariadne para indicar a saída (ou o começo) do labirinto psicológico e literário que a Obra é envolta.
Leitura intrigante, bem escrito e cheio de referências culturais, mitológicas e literárias. Vinho da mais alta qualidade a ser apreciado, uma crônica bem escrita.

uma leitura gostosa e divertida, bem no estilo do Luis Fernando verissimo. Adoro os livros dele por conta disso, são simples, leves e rápidos de ler. A história tem seu Q de mistério mas o ponto alto do livro é ver até onde o protagonista e seus amigos de bar vão pra solucionar esse mistério. A história é rechada de elementos que o autor adora usar que que já vimos em várias histórias dele. O que pra mim não é um problema. Se tornou, a muito tempo, minha leitura de conforto.

An operation of spies is conceived in the bar and so this farce, or comic-noir, starts rolling. The farce takes over somewhat detracting from the ending of their efforts.

Uitgever wil haar gaan redden – allerlei vreemde gebeurtenissen in het dorpje van de schrijfster – dramatisch einde, maar uitgever ‘muist er van onder’. Soms grappig, ook ironisch.

De fato é uma ótima escrita e o livro faz bem o que se propõe com uma boa utilização de tudo o que foi construído e apresentado em um desfecho que, apesar de um pouco desanimador, trata-se da quebra de expectativa e "puxada" dos personagens de volta à realidade, assim como a angústia do leitor sobre a decepção com o fim.

My reading of this would probably have been more enjoyable had it not been interrupted so much and in such long stretches. Very well-written, humorous prose, but the ending is so dissatisfying, and may as well ruin the rest of the book.

Cute little farce. Unfortunately the farce overwhelmed the potential for truely great book. By going down the farce line the plot suffered with an end bordering on ' he woke up from his dream. Perhaps four stars is generous but I had a good time reading and that can't be a bad thing

บทแรกๆแปลงงๆ กว่าจะจูนติดก็เกือบกลางเรื่อง สไตล์การเขียนมีจังหวะให้หลุดขำออกมาหลายดอก เหมือนได้ตามไปดูการผจญภัยของกลุ่มผู้ชายที่คงนึกคึกได้ออกผจญภัยทำภารกิจลับเหมือนเด็กๆ แต่จบได้ล้มโต๊ะน่าโมโหนิดๆ สรุปแล้วมันมีอะไรเปลี่ยนแปลงไปมั้ยนะ? ฮืม!
