The fighting in this manga is glorious.

The different characters with different fighting style, own reasons they fight, and above all else- who they fight for - is beyond stunning.
I am so rooting for these people💚

Yet another example of me getting bored out of my mind if a fight in a manga gets too long. This fight against Nobunaga Oda has lasted over one whole volume by now and it's not done yet. It's such a slog to get through. Another thing, I know we kind of need to keep seeing that Okuni is still there with the other characters, but it's funny how her frames is just her lying on the ground, and most of the times is just a her from the top of the shoulders and up. Sometimes it's just her face. I know it's not supposed to be funny, but I can't take it seriously.

Today’s post is on Samurai Deeper Kyo volume 9 by Akimine Kamijyo. It is published by Tokyopop. As it is the ninth in the series you need to have read the previous volumes to understand the story. The cover has Kyo, Benitora, Yukimura, and Sasuke looking cool on it. The intended reader is someone who loves samurai manga, cool characters, and unusual romance. There is language, lots of violence, and partial nudity; older teens and adults only. The story is told third person god point of view with thought of the characters thrown in for character and plot development. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book-Demon Hands of Bone
The most feared general of all time has returned! His name- Oda Kazusa-no-suke Nobunaga! Even more shocking than “The Master’s” identity is the demonic power that drives him. Can Kyo the thousand-killer find a way to defeat an enemy who has conquered death itself?

Review- Again the blurb for this book is just not giving how great this series is. But then again maybe they think that if you are reading volume nine of a series then you just want to get a quick plot idea before diving right in. Of course more fighting but just like the rest of the series it is good and very exciting. Kyo and Nobunaga has it out but then Kyoshiro takes over for a good plot twist. In every volume we have been getting more and more about why Kyo needs to get his body back but we still do not have all the details. Yuya and Akira reach his body. Their interactions are some of the best in the series and this travel time together is what builds that bond. The art is what really sales the fight scenes for me. The way that light, shadows, and ink move on the page from scene to scene is truly beautiful. Kamijyo is a great manga-ka and I just love her. More general character development with some important side characters and then we have finished volume 9.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

With the great reveal of the Master's identity, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Volume 09 throttles forward as two fearsome enemies go at each other's throats. Although Kyo's battle with the Master should have been the highlight of this volume, I thought Yukimura's battle with Basara stole the show. Admittedly, my perspective may be totally biased since Yukimura is my favorite character.

As much as I adore this series, the fact is that the plot can feel redundant, but such is the case with a lot of shônen manga. I think this wouldn't be so glaringly obvious if I weren't reading so many volumes back to back. The repetitiveness not only occurs from volume to volume but within the same volume as well. However, Akimine Kamijô is so skilled at building the excitement and tension that you overlook the rehashed material, eagerly anticipating what's to come.

This was another action-packed volume. I can't wait to learn more about Kyoshiro and his secrets!

As I suspected all along, Kyoshiro didn't really disappear forever; he just buried himself deep within his/Kyo's unconscious mind to await a time when Kyo wouldn't be able to win a fight. He comes back in the middle of Kyo's battle with Nobunaga (the ringleader of the villains, who's out to take possession of Kyo's real body) and reveals his true power as an alchemist/magician of the Mibu clan. Obviously there had to be a reason why Kyo chose to reside in Kyoshiro's body, and now we finally know for sure. Of all the power players we've met, Kyoshiro is the most powerful due to his heritage even though he wants nothing to do with battle and death. Such is life, eh?

The 12 (and Yuya) have finally reached Kyo's true body in the ice castle, butit seems like Ajira has plans of his own for it, since he turns on his companions. He might just be another person out to possess Kyo's body, or destroy it for good, but he might end up actually being on Kyo's side. That would explain how nice he is to Yuya, but I highly doubt that it's that simple.

Kyo and Oda Nobunaga battle it out the entire volume. Kyo eventually begins to lose and then comes Kyoshiro, who totally dominates the battle. Benitora made quite an impact in this volume and I love seeing him jump in. Ajira and Yuya arrive at Kyo's true body and he then shows his true colors.

So much happens in this volume and it kept a good solid pace throughout. I'm definitely looking forward to the next volume.

The story is a bit dull when it starts off with Yuya and Kyoshiro. But as you progress, the plot thickens and newly cast members introduced piece by piece make this manga unique and a bit of a masterpiece. There are two main story lines: 1- Yuya is looking for the man that killed her brother and 2- Kyo is searching for his true body to exact his revenge. Every other plot in between just adds fuel to the story and lets you learn of the diverse background of many characters, friends or foes. The story itself was captivating and it is a shame that many people know of this series.

The art style refined over time, giving the battle scenes flaws execution. The each character had their own torments and demons to deal with but I would have to say that certain individuals needed more evolution or better backstory. The end was well received and left no stone unturned.

I have watched the anime adaptation and I don't recommend it. It doesn't do it justice.
