Woolf met Sackville-West in 1922, when both women were married. They began a sexual relationship that lasted almost a decade, and remained friends afterwards until Woolf's suicide in 1941. Woolf has been portrayed on screen many times before, most notably in Nicole Kidman's Oscar-winning performance in The Hours.
