The Welsummer is an amazing, gentle chicken who deserves a place in everyones flock! We began our journey with only two hens, but quickly fell in love with their beautiful dark speckled eggs. They are great foragers, are very quiet, and Docile. Our Roosters have not been aggressive toward us. They are a great dual purpose breed. You can expect around 5 eggs weekly. 
 
Some Welsummer lines can be sexed upon hatch based on markings. Females will have darker more distinct eyeliner, as well as a more defined "chipmunk stripe". We have found our line of Welsummer follow this pattern. We will be sexing out the Females this year. Sometimes this can be tricky - and if the sex of the chick is in question it will not be sold as a Female. 
 
All of our Welsummer hens lay eggs with speckles. Some will lay a deep red-brown with small heavily saturated speckles all over, others will lay a lighter shade with large brown speckles. Each egg varies day to day and they never fail to surprise us with a new speckled pattern! Many of our Welsummer hens add a bloom over their egg making the eggshell appear a Pink/Purple tone. 
 
We have found our Welsummer hens to be very broody. Most of our girls go broody once a year and make excellent mothers.
