Graduated in architecture from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo - FAU/USP, Cristiano Alckmin Mascaro is one of the most important photographers of the capital of São Paulo and its architecture, which he has systematically documented for more than two decades. Among his most important works, there are records of the interior of the State of São Paulo and historical heritage sites throughout Brazil. He began his photographic career in 1968, when he was invited to join the first team at Veja magazine, where he remained for four years. He is a professor of photojournalism at Enfoco Escola de Fotografia, between 1972 and 1975; directed the Audio-Visual Resources Laboratory at FAU/USP, between 1974 and 1988; and teaches visual communication at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of Santos, from 1976 to 1986. He received a master's degree in 1986, with the dissertation The Use of Photography in the Interpretation of Urban Space and a doctorate in 1995, with the thesis Photography and Architecture , by FAU/USP. He is the author of the books A Cidade, 1979; Cristiano Mascaro, The Best Photos, 1989; City Lights, 1996, São Paulo, 2000, and Built Heritage - the 100 most beautiful buildings in Brazil, 2003. Received the Eugène Atget International Photography Prize, in 1984; and the Bolsa Vitae de Fotografia, in 1989.
