THE FIRST FULL trailer for the action movie remake Road House has dropped, giving viewers a proper look at Jake Gyllenhaal in the Patrick Swayze role. Footage of Gyllenhaal in character leaked during filming in early 2023, revealing that he is playing a mixed martial arts fighter, and the trailer confirms that some of the movie will be set in the world of UFC.

In the 1989 original, Swayze played James Dalton, a bouncer who defended a small-town bar from corrupt businessmen, and it looks like the plot will be following pretty much the same beats here, with Gyllenhaal's down-on-his-luck fighter being hired to provide security at the titular road house in the Florida Keys.

As with any remake, of course, the ante has to be upped or what's the point? And the trailer here promises even higher-octane fight scenes, with real-life UFC pro Conor McGregor appearing as one of the antagonists who'll be grappling with Gyllenhaal—who has clearly put in the time training to get into character.

In addition to seemingly performing his own stunts and fight choreography in the film, Gyllenhaal has sculpted a lean, muscular physique in order to realistically embody a middleweight MMA fighter—and to shoot the now-obligatory shirtless scenes that will help to stoke up thirst and build buzz for the movie.

Gyllenhaal shredded his six-pack for Road House by working with celebrity trainer Jason Walsh, who has also helped Brie Larson get into superhero shape for her role in the Captain Marvel and Avengers movies. Walsh got Gyllenhaal onto the vertical climber, a machine that recreates crawling movements, to get his heart-rate up and boost his cardiovascular fitness—but acknowledges that the actor was already in incredible shape.

"If he's not in the gym doing strength training and conditioning, he's swimming, he's outside playing paddle tennis, he cycles like crazy," Walsh told Insider. "The guy does everything. He's just always looking for that stimulus."
