Anúna - on a cold winter’s night

(2020) 50 mins

ANÚNA : On a Cold Winter's Night was filmed by candlelight in front of a live audience in Dublin, Ireland on a wild and stormy evening. The songs span a thousand years of music created for the winter season performed by the combined voices of this legendary Irish-based vocal group who brought gravitas and elegance to the original Riverdance.

The production, composed of classic songs of the season, includes favourites such as Ding Dong Merrily on High, Away in a Manger, The Coventry Carol, O Holy Night, Jingle Bells and Gaudete along with classics of the ANÚNA repertoire including Pie Jesu, Fionnghuala and Media Vita. All the music is written and/or arranged by the group's artistic director and composer Michael McGlynn.

The programme features the beautiful interiors and stained glass of Saint Bartholomew's Church, a landmark of Dublin, alongside evocative images of the Irish landscape. This is combined with the elegant costumes and candle-lit presentation that has made ANÚNA the best-known choral ensemble to originate from Ireland.

“Thank you for your genius of melody and harmony.”
- Bono

"Michael McGlynn is a remarkable composer...most of Michael's pieces draw on Irish Early-Christian
and pre-Christian texts as well as traditional airs and lyrical themes...beautiful and startling music."
- Elvis Costello

"Anúna is legitimate folklore that weaves religious and secular threads into an enchanting sonic tapestry."
