Report: Diego Forlan in talks with Atletico Paranaense

Atleticos all over the world are queuing up to sign Diego Forlan.

Free-agent Diego Forlan was linked to the New York Red Bulls about a month ago. It was not a particularly convincing rumor, though the player's father, Pablo, did confirm there was an offer for his son's services from an American team. Mostly, however, the Uruguay legend has been persistently linked to a move to Indian Super League's Atletico Kolkata.

Now there is a new Atletico in the mix: Brazilian club Atletico ParanaenseGazeta do Povo reports a proposal has been submitted to Forlan, with quotes from Atletico's Director of Football, Paulo Carneiro, and Diego's father, Pablo Forlan confirming there is a discussion in progress.

The gist of the negotiations is said to be that Atletico isn't quite willing to offer the sort of money Forlan is looking for, but the club is closer to Uruguay than some of the other options the player is considering and is currently coached by Paulo Autuori, who was in charge of Cerezo Osaka in 2015 when Diego played for the Japanese side. Another friend from Forlan's days in Japan - young forward Pablo - is also in the Atletico Paranaense squad for this season.

There are still several Atleticos out there that haven't been rumored to be interested in Diego Forlan, so the Uruguayan's options show no signs of narrowing just yet.
