Matt Groening ending 'Life in Hell' -- will you miss the strip?

Portland's gift to animated comedy and creator of

"The Simpsons,"

is also the man behind

"Life in Hell,"

the quirky comic strip that has been running in various papers -- including the Oregonian's A&E section -- for more than 30 years.

Today, news comes that Groening has decided to end "Life in Hell." As

Rob Tornoe writes on the Poynter Web site

Tornoe also quotes syndicated cartoonist Ted Rall, who says "Life in Hell" helped create a market for cartoonists' work in alternative newsweeklies around the country.

But the number of papers that carry "Life in Hell" has dropped, as Tornoe reports:

The last "Life in Hell" strip to appear in

the Oregonian will be in the June 22 issue of A&E
