Curated by Osvaldo Carvalho, “Pintura!” presents works of 15 artists

(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

The Galeria de Arte Meninos de Luz holds since the 15th May the exhibition “Pintura!” [“Painting!”], promoted by Osvaldo Carvalho. Among the participating artist are Bruno Miguel and Danielle Carcav.

Fifteen contemporary artists display works in varied medias from oil and acrylic to watercolour and silkscreen, multiple techniques on canvas and paper. The canvases are for sale and 50% of the profit will be donated to Solar Meninos de Luz, a philanthropic organisation which since 1991 promotes formal and complementary education in fulltime, culture, sports and basic healthcare in the communities of Pavão-Pavãozinho and Cantagalo, in Copacabana, Rio south area.

As part of the show, silkscreen, drawing and artistic creation workshops for students will be held and, as a result of this educational activity, the works for the gallery’s next exhibition will be obtained.

“The work that has been done seeks to amplify the students’ universe of knowledge, not just with this exhibition in particular, but also the whole process that started five years ago with the first group shows which gradually bring in artist from the community itself, such as ACME, nationally known for his graffiti. Every workshop act as a means to propagate the techniques used by the artists and their creative process among the students, helping the children think and reflect on art, among other things”, says Rio-based artist and exhibition curator, Osvaldo Carvalho.

Workshops will take place in the Solar, on the 17th May, for about 20 students from ages ranging from 12 to 18 years old. The exhibtion will be held until 12th July and the students’ until 16th August.
