Salvador City Hall and Airport unite in search of international flights
The event seeks to further strengthen the Bahian capital as a tourist route
One of the most desired cities for tourist trips in Brazil, Salvador is constantly improving. There are many attractions for the traveler to have a cultural immersion in the city, such as traditional festivals, ancestral cuisine, secular churches, beaches, incredible itineraries and art. Allied to this, infrastructure works, revitalizations and promotions of cultural points have contributed to move the city’s economy. This effort makes the Bahian capital one of the most sold destinations nationally, also enhancing international interest.
For these reasons, the city of Salvador will host an unprecedented event in South America, the CAPA Latin America Summit, a regional aviation conference that brings together air transport companies from different parts of Latin America and other continents. The event, scheduled to take place on August 25th and 26th, is the result of a joint effort by the City Hall and Salvador Airport, master sponsors of the action.
One of the objectives of this high-strategy event is to highlight the destination of Salvador through its tourist attractions, as well as its air connectivity, in order to attract more international flights to the city. For two days, CEOs and air network planners from large companies will be in the capital of Bahia. The presence of the CEOs of the Brazilian companies GOL and Azul, the Colombian company Ultra Air, the Argentine company Flybondi, the Portuguese company TAP and the Ecuadorian company Equair, as well as a top executive from the German company Lufthansa, has already been confirmed. The international conference is produced by CAPA – Center for Aviation – one of the largest global providers of data and market intelligence for the aviation and tourism industries. Every year, airline representatives meet to discuss market challenges and trends, benchmark, network and, of course, close deals.
Open to the international market
The first city founded in Brazil, seat of the General Government, was for many years the largest city in the Americas. On March 29, 1549, São Salvador was born, already a city, already a capital, without ever having been a province. Solar, musical and multicultural city, today recognized as Black Rome, Mecca of Blackness, City of Music and Joy.
In recent years, tourists and residents have been rediscovering the city. Starting with the Historic Center of Salvador, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. In the lower part, it is worth visiting the beautiful Basilica of Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Praia, the Music Museum (Cidade da Música da Bahia) and the Mercado Modelo. From there, you go up the Lacerda Elevator, the first urban elevator in the world, to the upper part of the city, where you have a beautiful view of the All Saints Bay and, in the background, the São Marcelo Fort. Head to Pelourinho and be sure to visit: the House of Carnival (Casa do Carnaval da Bahia), the Church and Convent of São Francisco, the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary of Black People, the Casa de Jorge Amado Foundation and Casa do Benin.
A waterfront full of beautiful beaches
Even with the arrival of the cold season throughout Brazil, the Bahian capital continues to have its beaches as a strong attraction for tourists, with pleasant temperatures, despite the rains. The sun always appears in Salvador, the waters are warm and the coast has beaches for all tastes: with waves for sportsmen; with the calm sea of All Saints Bay for those who want tranquility; and with points of rock formations full of natural pools, excellent for those traveling with children.
A good suggestion to get to know the city in a different way is the panoramic tour along the city’s edge aboard the Double-Deck Salvador Bus, so you can choose your next favorite beach. For those looking for “comfort on the sand”, your destination is the Blue Praia Bar. The space has an exuberant view of Buracão Beach, in Rio Vermelho, one of the liveliest and most energetic neighborhoods in Salvador. The atmosphere is beautiful, with its lattice gazebos, balcony tables, beachfront lounges, Balinese beds and beach kit.
Cultural life all around
Other interesting destinations are in the neighborhoods of Vitória and Barra, some of the most traditional neighborhoods in the city. A chic residential, Corredor da Vitória is centered on Avenida Sete de Setembro, flanked by giant mango trees and luxury condominiums overlooking the All Saints Bay. Mansions that have become important museums are some of the attractions, as well as art galleries such as Paulo Darzé, which focuses on contemporary Brazilian art.
In Barra, cultural spaces are mixed with exuberant nature. If you are used to going to Porto da Barra just to enjoy that wonderful beach, there is still a lot to do on that beautiful edge. There is the Pierre Verger Space for Bahian Photography, at Santa Maria Fort and the Carybé Space of Arts, in São Diogo Fort. Nearby is the Barra Lighthouse, which is part of the Santo Antônio da Barra Fort. Much more than an obligatory stop for photos, this fortification houses the Nautical Museum of Bahia, which has a historical collection made up of objects from different periods, some of them submerged for up to 300 years, and which help to understand the relationship between the man and the sea and between Bahia and the Lighthouse.
