Sweaty Sleepers, Rejoice: Spanx's Breathable Underwear Is Comfy Enough to Sleep and Work Out In

Now I understand why Spanx is the brand behind Jennifer Garner's go-to, barely-there bra.

When it comes to underwear shopping, I've been all about buying in bulk: Five for $25, 10 for $35, etc. But soon enough, without fail, my thongs, briefs, and boy shorts would pill, shrivel up, and die. I didn't know how badly I needed a reliable set that I can sleep, work, and lounge in until I came across Spanx's underwear offerings.

I knew the brand had beloved comfy bras thanks to Jennifer Garner's recommendation, but I never thought about trying the underwear until it came across my inbox. The line seemed to have my needs covered from all angles: smoothing, breathable, comfortable cotton panties, and thongs with no VPL (visible panty lines).

Spanx Underwear Key Features

  • How I tested: I wore each pair of underwear 2-3 times per week for 6 weeks.
  • Perfect for: The person who is always hot and doesn't mind paying for comfort
  • What you'll love: The fabric and fit are pure magic! They are breathable but smoothing. They are comfortable, but also stay put.
  • Keep in mind: They are pricey; $24 for the Cotton Control Boyshorts and $20 for the Under Statements Thong.
  • Sizing: I wear a size small and the boyshorts were cheeky for me, so I'd probably size up next time. However, the Understatement Thong in size small worked for me.

Spanx Cotton Control Boyshort Review

First up, I tried Spanx's new, eco-friendly Cotton Control Boyshort and Cotton Control Bralette (Anyone else a sucker for a good set?!). The first time I unboxed the set, I couldn't believe how soft and structured each piece was. It didn't feel flimsy or constricting thanks to the blend of compression and stretch. I was eager to put these underwear on and quickly did a happy dance when I did. The double-layer waistband is smoothing but not constricting, and the double-layer cups are supportive for my B-cup girls to wear both out and about or at home lounging or snoozing.

Speaking of snoozing, where are my sweaty sleepers at? I can gladly say this set has kept me dry and cool thanks to the breathable fabric. It might be TMI, but I typically sleep in the nude but was rethinking my routine since I read about the viral TikTok Doc that said sleeping naked was gross. Added bonus: My boyfriend thought I looked great (shout out to the thick, smoothing waistband).

Spanx Under Statement Thongs Review

Next up, I tested the Under Statements Thongs. These pretty little panties came in bold colors and patterns and slipped under every garment with magician-like quality. I've worn them comfortably to family parties under Spanx white trousers (Ashley Graham wasn't kidding: The silver-lining technology in these Spanx pants are scream-worthy), with dresses to work, and most notably, for sweaty indoor and outdoor workouts. And get this — no frontal wedgie, no budging, nothing.

Full disclosure, I'm usually a commando girl when it comes to workouts because the thought of working out while my bits are strangled just sounds like torture. I'm happy to report that every bit of me was happy with this underwear, and I truly forgot I was even wearing them. Seriously, I took multiple belfie (butt selfies, folks) in the gym mirrors and was shocked that I couldn't see — nor feel — the thongs during my classes. The no-dig feel and no-show look are thanks to the laser-cut edges, as well as the quick-drying and moisture-wicking technology in the fabric.

Since upgrading my undies, my shriveled-up undergarments have remained tucked away and are only brought out when my laundry pile gets too high. In my 30s, I've realized it's time to invest in quality pieces (no matter how small!) that help you feel your best — and these breathable, comfortable staples from Spanx are just that.
