Public Transporation

Getting Around Stuttgart

Stuttgart's public transportation system is top-notch. The train and bus systems are clean, safe, and easy to use, even if the map initially looks a little confusing. But don't worry – the more you use the train, the easier it becomes to navigate.

One of the great things about Stuttgart's public transportation system is that it's similar to other major European cities. So by getting to know how it works in Stuttgart, you'll also be a pro at using public transportation in other European cities.

To make things even easier, you can use Google Maps to help you find the correct train or bus stop. So don't hesitate to use Stuttgart's public transportation – it's a fantastic way to get around the city!

VVS/SSB Ticket Apps

ssb-logo.png

The VVS or SSB app simplifies planning your journey and purchasing tickets.

No worrying about losing your ticket or making sure you validate it.

VVS vs. SSB

SSB is the company that runs the busses and U-Bahn. VVS runs the S-Bahn. When you purchase a ticket, it is suitable for the U-Bahn, S-Bahn, and busses.

There are only a few differences between the VVS and SSB apps.

  • The SSB app offers Paypal as a payment method.

  • The SSB app does seem to work better for iPhone users.

Ticket Validation

To validate your paper ticket, insert your ticket into the slot on the yellow box. You will find the validation boxes near the ticket machine or at the top of the escalators at an S-Bahn stop; on the U-Bahn or bus, the location is near the train or bus doors.

Traveling without a valid ticket or not validating a ticket will result in a fine if checked by a ticket checker.

You must pay the fines on-site in cash.
