Since his breakout role in the Twilight film series, Robert Pattinson has more than proved his mettle as an actor, with a series of acclaimed performances in films directed by the cream of arthouse cinema, from David Cronenberg to Claire Denis, under his belt.

Off the screen, he’s also spent his years on the indie circuit developing an equally subversive approach to red carpet dressing. Now that he’s returning to multiplexes as the titular character in The Batman — his first major blockbuster in years — Rob isn’t letting up his offbeat sartorial streak.

Attending the London premiere of The Batman on February 13 alongside his co-star Zoë Kravitz, he wore a look designed by Luke and Lucie Meier for Jil Sander — and with the couple’s reputation for delivering slick but playful riffs on tailoring staples, it was a match made in red carpet heaven. Rob's oversized gray suit carried all of the grunge-inspired flair the actor likes to bring to the classic red carpet suit, worn with a sleek black turtleneck, minimalist leather boots, and a thick silver chain bracelet.

Director Matt Reeves’s take on the Batman legend promises to be one of the moodiest — and most memorable — in recent history, so it only makes sense that Robert would be unafraid to embrace the dark side on the red carpet, too. (While doing the press rounds so far, he has largely stuck to this formula of boxy, all-black tailoring, including another Jil Sander coat earlier today while out and about in London.) Never one to be afraid of taking a fashion risk, however, RobPat looks to promote the film promise to be just as thrilling as its on-screen action.
