As a month’s worth of fashion shows draws to a close, there is only one contender in my mind for the ‘best dressed’ prize; Kate Moss.

Attending events in London, Milan and Paris over the last few weeks, the 48 year-old British supermodel has delivered fresh yet polished outfits both on and off the catwalk - the former of which could easily inspire any woman at home when plotting her own autumn wardrobe.

Moss offered her take on each city’s implicit dress codes, whether launching her jewellery collection with Messika in Paris, appearing on the Fendi x Versace (Fendace) catwalk in Milan, or sitting on the front row in London to watch daughter Lila Moss walk in the Richard Quinn show.

From her new (but also very familiar) jeans style to try, to her smart-casualwear staples, these are the lessons to take away and the pieces to covet.

1. The pussy bow blouse doesn’t have to look fussy

Moss’s undone red pinstripe shirt looks effortless and sexy, especially when styled with black flares and a leather biker jacket. Tucking the blouse in has created an overall nipped silhouette, while the velvet trousers and platform-front pair of boots work together to make Moss’s supermodel legs look even longer. Spotted on the streets of Paris, Moss finished the outfit with a classic Chanel handbag.

2. Add a velvet jacket to your winter wardrobe

Moss and her 19-year-old daughter Lila showed two takes on the same trend while leaving the Ritz hotel in Paris. While Lila’s velvet interpretation was a pair of silver crushed texture tracksuit trousers, worn with trainers, Kate’s version was a waist-belted jacket, worn with a black silk skirt and glossy leather low-heel boots. A great velvet jacket can be worn with everything from jeans to tailored trousers, and will be brought out of the wardrobe again and again every autumn season.

3. Bootcut jeans are back

Denim is ubiquitous at London Fashion Week, yet Moss found a way to make it feel simultaneously fresh and grown up, rather than trendy and try-hard. Her mission to revive bootcut jeans could be a success; styled with another inky velvet jacket, a white shirt and brown round-toe boots, she has made a convincing case for their comeback.

4. Cut-outs are in

Walking in the Fendace (Fendi x Versace) catwalk show, Moss embraced the cut-out trend and Milan’s sexier dress style in a black minidress. Granted she was styled by Donatella Versace and Fendi’s Kim Jones for the show, but the takeaway idea of a keyhole neckline can be applied to all manner of other evening tops and silhouettes, and may be a more appealing route into the cut-out trend than a dress or top slashed around the midriff.

5. How to amp up an all-black evening wear look

For an evening event during Paris Fashion Week celebrating the launch of her Messika fine jewellery collection, Moss looked suitably glam. Over the years she has frequently opted for an all-black evening look as a fail-safe, instantly chic solution, but incorporating elements of sparkle made this outfit feel more special - and not at all boring despite the monochrome palette. The fluffy embellished bomber jacket, layered over the crystal bodice dress, brings textural interest - just add her signature smudged eyeliner to finish.
