The building, similar in its origin to so many others in Campo de Ourique, has a black “cut” on its facade that makes it stand out from the adjacent buildings. This space, the entrance to the museum, painted in black, is the start of a building-itinerary where the spaces you go through are either entirely white or black. The visit to the site crosses the building through the existing marks on the floor that reconstruct at full-scale the plan of the poet’s house. The museum collection is presented in such a way as to accompany and involve the visitor, leading him from the first known written record of Pessoa at the age of six to the last sentence he wrote on the eve of his death. A distinctive mark of the recent intervention is the special attention paid to sustainability and accessibility of the building, thus being sympathetic, inclusive, and attentive to the particularities, needs, and expectations of visitors.
