Helen Mirren has never kept quiet about her love for “stripper shoes.” The actress prefers the highest heels with big, clear platforms (or nude and silver varieties) while walking the red carpet, and she will readily admit it’s because she wants those extra inches. “I always wear stripper shoes because it’s pretty intimidating to find yourself in a room full of incredibly beautiful women who are at least a foot taller than you,” she once told Woman & Home magazine (via Express).

This isn’t the first time the actress—who Google lists as being 5’4”—has discussed her preferred footwear. In 2010, she revealed her shopping secret to Jay Leno, admitting that she used to buy her shoes on Hollywood Boulevard. “Thirty-nine dollars, they cost me,” she said. “They give you like, an immediate seven inches.”

She previously lamented to Woman & Home in 2010 that her beloved heels can now be found anywhere, telling the magazine, “I used only to be able to get them in stripper shops, but now you can buy them everywhere—although, unfortunately, that means everyone else has discovered the trick too.”
