Anna Chapman, the sexy Russian spy who was arrested in New York City in 2010 and walked the Moscow catwalk during Fashion Week in 2011, was reportedly ordered by superiors to seduce NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and keep him in Russia for questioning and scrutiny.
Boris Karpichkov, a former agent for the KGB, said official plans called for Ms. Chapman to engage Mr. Snowden to the point where he wouldn’t want to leave Russia — and then open the doors for Moscow authorities to question him about U.S. military and security secrets, the New York Post reported.
The two only met once, Mr. Karpichkov said. But Ms. Chapman then tracked him down on Twitter and tweeted: “Snowden, will you marry me?!”
Mr. Snowden grew alarmed about the consequences of pursing the tryst, Mr. Karpichkov told London’s Sunday People.
“If Snowden had accepted, he would have a right to Russian citizenship,” he said, the Post reported. “That would lock him in Russia. As a citizen he’d need permission to leave.”
Before Ms. Chapman was outed as a spy, she worked in real estate in New York City. After returning to Russia, she worked as a model, an editor and a public speaker.
