Suzanne Pleshette dies at 70

Actress was best known for her work as Emily on ''The Bob Newhart Show,'' more recently on ''Will and Grace''

Suzanne Pleshette, the actress best known for her role as Bob Newhart’s wife Emily on The Bob Newhart Show from 1972 to 1978, has died from respiratory failure. She was 70.

The Bob Newhart Show consistently ranked among TV’s Top 20 shows. Pleshette also appeared in numerous other television shows, including Have Gun, Will Travel, Playhouse 90, and Naked City. Her career included roles in films like Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds; If It’s Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium; and Support Your Local Gunfighter. She also appeared on Broadway in plays such as The Miracle Worker. More recently, she played the title role in 1990’s Leona Helmsley, the Queen of Mean, and had several cameos in the sitcom Will & Grace.
