"The French photographer who identifies himself as JR is the author of the photo exhibition in the Providencia slum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 16, 2008. 'Morro da Providencia' is one of the most dangerous favela in Rio de Janeiro. From some days, the facades of the poor houses of this slum watch to the city with great eyes that worry and observe the people walking down the hill. The eyes belong to the photographic project of JR, www.jr-art.net, a French artist famous for his photographic installations on social topics in unthinkable places of the world. One of its more famous installation was 'Face to Face', a photo exhibition along the Hebron wall in Palestine. The news of the representing blowups of the Arabs and Palestinian faces exposed along the wall became very famous through the world media, but the initiative made JR arrested by the Israeli authorities. The French artist do its exhibition around the world without permission of the governments authorities; he is not supported by anyone and the funds necessary for his intervention cane from his photographic activity. JR has returned in action in Rio de Janeiro. The photographs of these eyes are fixed on the facades of the buildings thanks to the collaboration and the complicity of slum's inhabitants, included the drugs trafficker.
